Donated Photographs from Acong Setia Budi @acongsb
These are the negatives of his early childhood inherited from his belated father. The photos were in the area near the swamp—taken on 1988-1989 while his family were in Rawasari, Banjarmasin, South Kalimantan. Acong said that these were the remaining artefact which reminds him of his family struggle. In the late 80s, the area was still quiet, it had much less population than his last visit on 2014—the area was massively occupied and the big river is now getting narrowed.
This is one of the case how the physical photograph might be re-discovered. in Acong's case it functions as the personal remembrance of his family story. He re-discovers the family narratives through the re-discovery of these negatives. In other cases—for example the abandoned photograph which is detached from its personal interpretation—it functions merely as image, abandoned.
Collecting and observing old photograph provide the chance of re-discovery and re-interpretation of the abandoned photograph.
The digital photograph might vanish along its medium or device, while the physical one has the chance of re-discovery, re-interpretation.
